Myrdle Court Press advances critical, independent and inter-disciplinary work that interrogates contemporary cities. It was founded by Deepa Naik and Trenton Oldfield in 2009 to redress the incongruous situation that as the rate and scale of urbanisation rapidly increases, global corporations and their academics dominate the discourse on 'cities', and independent critical platforms are narrowing.
Myrdle Court Press is particularly interested in challenging The Urban Industry. It privileges lived knowledge; the ideas of the oppressed and overlooked; the voices of resistance and those who unequivocally challenge status quo understandings of cities.
Myrdle Court Press takes a back-to-fundamentals approach to publishing. It uses high quality papers and inks, distributes with independent networks, and employs classic design and small print runs. Myrdle Court Press is the publishing arm of the not for profit company This Is Not A Gateway based in London, UK.
Central Books are the sole distributor of Myrdle Court Press publications in Europe.
